About The Position

Great Southern Wood Preserving Inc. is seeking to hire an intern Plant mechanic. The intern Plant mechanic will perform preventative maintenance, routine and non-routine repairs, and troubleshoot problems with machinery. Responsible for maintenance, repair, installation, and modification of all treatment facility equipment to safely maximize uptime, quality, and productivity. This is a temporary position for summer 2026 with no associated benefits.

Requirements

  • Basic stick welding and oxygen/acetylene torch cutting.
  • Ability to splice and track various-size conveyor belts.
  • Reads, understands, and applies information in company maintenance manuals, technical manuals, policies, and common schematic diagrams/drawings.
  • Knows and applies required company safety procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Perform inspection, services, and adjustments in routine daily maintenance on vehicles including lubricating, cleaning parts, and maintaining treatment facility equipment.
  • Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, plumb bobs, and lasers.
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools.
  • Move equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Replace sprockets, pumps, machine centers, chains, sheaves, and belts with proper alignment.
  • Replace hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, valves, and hoses.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, air, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools, repair parts, and equipment.
  • Adjust operating mechanisms.
  • Determines the extent of corrective action and repair parts required to correct malfunctions.
