About The Position
The Davey Tree Expert Company is hiring a Plant Healthcare Technician in Columbus, Minnesota. The successful candidate will start in fall or winter as a Trimmer Trainee and transition into a Plant Healthcare Technician in spring 2027. The role begins with tree trimming and removal, including removing unwanted, diseased, or dying limbs to support tree health and safety. The employee will work as part of a tree crew and progressively develop tree-care skills while learning to climb and perform pruning and removal services safely for clients. The position is based outdoors and is on site, with travel expectations of up to 25%.
Requirements
- Love of the outdoors.
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR, and defensive driving course upon hire.
Nice To Haves
- Background in forestry, horticulture, landscaping, or working at heights.
- Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law.
Responsibilities
- Work as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills.
- Learn to climb trees.
- Learn and perform tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
- Identify trees and follow industry pruning guidelines.
- Prune and thin trees and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
- Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
- Assist in removing hazardous trees.
- Maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment, including chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
