About The Position

A locum physician in neurological surgery providing inpatient coverage at a Level 1 Trauma Center. Coverage runs from Friday at 7 AM through Monday at 7 AM every weekend after credentialing, with both weekend and on-call participation required. Candidates must commit to the full coverage period without exceptions and specify their availability between January 25, 2027, and April 30, 2027, as well as the number of shifts per month they can cover. The physician manages adult and trauma neurosurgery cases and performs or oversees procedures including tumor resection, hemorrhage control, trauma repairs, shunt insertion and revision, cranial burr holes, intracranial pressure monitor insertion, ventricular taps, lumbar punctures, and lumbar drain placements. Responsibilities also include care for traumatic brain injuries and neurocritical conditions, management of intracranial hemorrhages and shunts or external ventricular drains, EEG interpretation, intracranial pressure and cerebral perfusion pressure data management, and application and management of hypothermia techniques. The role uses Epic. Mandatory EMR training must be completed before the start date; there are no test-out options. Training sessions are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 AM MT. The facility provides equipped operating rooms and specialized neurosurgical instruments, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia support, an ICU/neurocritical care unit, emergency services, and blood bank access. The physician works with neurosurgery attending physicians, advanced practice providers, operating room staff, anesthesia providers, and ICU/neurocritical care staff. Teaching and supervision are tailored to the provider’s training and privileges, primarily for APP supervision. Coverage addresses gaps in existing coverage.
