About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position is for a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics practice, which is an established practice including one Developmental–Behavioral Pediatrician and dedicated support staff. There is strong collaboration with Pediatric Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Pediatric Behavioral Health, and a multidisciplinary feeding team. Integrated support is available from PT, OT, and Speech Therapy. The role involves a close partnership with primary care providers serving as the medical home. The physician will be responsible for the evaluation and management of a broad range of developmental and behavioral conditions and will have participation opportunities in multidisciplinary clinics, including: Autism & Developmental Disorders, Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, and NICU Follow Up. The practice is part of a larger team of 65+ board certified, fellowship-trained pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists. Sanford Children’s Hospital is a Level IV Pediatric Trauma Center with facilities including an 8-bed PICU (with flex beds), a 24-bed pediatric unit, and a 40-bed Level IV NICU. The service area covers a regional population of 1.2 million across North Dakota, Minnesota, and parts of South Dakota and Montana. There is also an academic opportunity for a joint clinical faculty appointment with the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences, with teaching opportunities for medical students, family medicine residents, and an expanding pediatric residency program.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of a hospital-affiliated Pediatric residency program.
  • Completion of a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics fellowship program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience can be demonstrated by a fellowship log for recent graduates.
  • For applicants not applying directly out of fellowship, a quality profile from hospital(s) where they currently have privileges showing clinical activity for the last 12 months, including numbers of procedures performed, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • Demonstrate active involvement of inpatient services for at least 50 patients in the last 12 months.
  • If a quality profile is not available, documentation of clinic activity for the last 12 months is required, demonstrating active involvement in the care of 50 patients in clinical practice.
  • Training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process.
  • Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.

Responsibilities

  • Admit patients (if applicable to setting).
  • Evaluate, diagnose, consult, and provide treatment to patients from infancy through adolescence with developmental difficulties and problematic behaviors.
