About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellow in Developmental Pediatrics is a one-year fellowship designed to provide comprehensive education in clinical experiences and a robust didactic curriculum. This program aims to fully prepare an APP for a full-time role in the specialty of Developmental Pediatrics. The fellow will join a busy Developmental Pediatrics Division within the Department of Pediatrics at MUSC’s Children’s Hospital, which offers diagnostic and treatment services for various developmental and behavioral disorders and runs a clinical research program. The fellowship schedule will align with other department APPs but may include additional clinical and academic requirements. The APP will be supported by the APP Best Practice Center, department APPs, APP mentors, physician fellows, and physician leaders.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant OR completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
  • Specific NP specialties accepted: FNP (Family NP), PCPNP/PNP (Primary Care Pediatric NP or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner), PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health NP) if educational background includes pediatrics psychiatric patients.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to the first day (if applicable).
  • Cover letter highlighting how the fellowship aligns with the applicant's career aspirations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients through comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats patients based on history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results, in accordance with the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures as approved by the Clinical Division Chief.
  • Initiates referrals to other healthcare providers and consults with attending or collaborating physicians.
  • Documents and bills for direct patient care provided.
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Attends education and academic sessions as determined by the APP Fellowship Coordinator or Director.
  • Completes presentations, lectures, QI projects, or other academic requirements set by the MUSC APP Fellowship Director or Department.
  • Participates in required MUSC APP Fellowship activities.
  • Maintains licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc., as required by applicable policies and state law.
  • Performs directly administered developmental screening and assessment tests (e.g., Brigance Screen, Bracken Preschool Readiness Test, Oral and Written Language Assessment, Modified Peabody Screen, Test of Visual Motor Integration, CAT/CLAMS, Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test, Qb Test).
  • Completes the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) curriculum.
