About The Position

The Staff Pediatrician will examine and treat common acute illnesses, chronic illnesses, and injuries in the pediatric population. This role involves correctly diagnosing diseases, formulating treatment plans, ordering appropriate laboratory tests and radiological studies, and referring patients to specialists as needed. The Pediatrician will also write prescriptions and perform office procedures within the scope of expertise protocols and available equipment. Outpatient duties target 20 patients per day, with flexibility to accommodate walk-in and late patients. The position includes taking after-hours telephone calls ("mommy call") approximately one week every 4-5 weeks, dependent on staffing. Additionally, the Staff Pediatrician will have newborn nursery duties, rotating weekly, at either Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center or Glendale Memorial Medical Center. Essential duties include collecting patient history, performing examinations in a family-friendly manner, thorough and accurate documentation, timely chart closure, developing reasonable treatment plans, performing relevant procedures competently, cross-covering other providers, supporting organizational vision and mission, prioritizing daily workload, participating in quarterly peer reviews, responding to patient needs, working appropriate hours, acting professionally, understanding whole person care, providing patient education, attending meetings, maintaining professional appearance, participating in orientation and committees, cooperating in call panels, using electronic medical records, supervising advanced practitioners, handling sensitive information discreetly, and complying with policies.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university.
Doctorate in Medicine or Doctorate in Osteopathy.
Board certified/eligible in General Pediatrics.
Unrestricted license to practice medicine or ability to be licensed.
Ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies and procedures, benefits information, benefit surveys, board minutes, routine mail, simple contracts, and procedure manuals.
Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively with employees, visitors and management.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Nice To Haves

Previous ambulatory clinical experience beyond residency preferred.
Prior experience with Patient Centered Medical Home mode of care delivery preferred.
Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

Collects history and performs examination in a family friendly and patient centered fashion.
Documents thoroughly and accurately and closes charts timely.
Develops reasonable plan including: treatment, referrals and use of drugs within scope of practice.
Performs relevant procedures competently with complete documentation, such as incision and drainage; excision/shaving of warts; application of silver nitrate to granulomas; wound care; and interpretation of EKGs.
Cross covers other providers when unavailable.
Supports and implements the organization’s vision, mission, and value.
Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload, including reviewing, and responding to laboratory and radiological reports, consults, referral requests, form requests, and information requests to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
Participates in quarterly peer reviews.
Responds to patient needs and works to find best solutions for the patient and family.
Works appropriate hours to minimize patient wait times as well as help to relieve overload situations/help other providers.
Acts and communicates in a professional manner to reduce friction with patients, providers and staff.
Understands that whole person care encompasses addressing social determinants of health, including possible history of trauma, responds compassionately, provides support if desired by patient/family, and makes referrals as warranted.
