About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking a BC/BE General Surgeon in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. This service will provide outpatient and inpatient coverage for General Surgery needs, including consultation and surgery on medical conditions involving the breast, gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, and hernias, as well as screening and diagnostic endoscopy. The role encourages involvement in medical education and research. The position is located at Marshfield Medical Center – Eau Claire.

Requirements

M.D. or D.O. degree.
Successful completion of a hospital affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
Demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery.
Case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.
If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinical activity for the past 12 months is required.

Nice To Haves

More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.
Training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada may be considered by the Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors.

Responsibilities

Admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care for adolescents and adults.
Perform surgical procedures for adolescents and adults (except where specifically excluded from practice and except for those special procedure privilege), to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery.
Provide for the on-call emergent/urgent needs of the pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patient within the core privilege definition.
