About The Position

We are seeking a full-time Board Certified or Board Eligible MD/DO General Surgeon to integrate into our collaborative surgical team at a community hospital in Brattleboro, Vermont. The candidate will provide comprehensive surgical care across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and wound care settings.

Requirements

  • Board certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
  • Completion of an accredited General Surgery Residency Program.
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical institution.
  • Active Vermont medical license required (DEA must be secured prior to practice commencement).
  • Current CPR certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Proven proficiency in surgical techniques and procedures.
  • Clean malpractice history.
  • Most recent NPDB Self Query Report must be submitted (active within the last 30 days).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver complete surgical management in various contexts, including inpatient and outpatient settings, and emergency department interventions.
  • Perform a range of common general surgical procedures, including but not limited to: hernia repairs, cholecystectomies, endoscopy, appendectomies, management of small bowel obstructions, colorectal surgeries, and skin and soft tissue procedures.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary wound management, addressing both acute and chronic wounds within a Wound Clinic framework.
  • Provide expert diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management across a spectrum of surgical conditions.
  • Utilize advanced operative skills and clinical judgment in all surgical cases.
  • Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders, including anesthesiologists and CRNAs, Physician Assistants, perioperative and peri-anesthesia teams, Emergency Department clinicians, Hospitalists, and Wound Clinic specialists.
  • Educate patients and their families on surgical procedures, associated risks, and post-operative care protocols.
  • Review and interpret diagnostic tests, taking appropriate action on findings.
  • Offer surgical insights for palliative care initiatives, pain management strategies, and end-of-life decision-making support.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA Category I regulations regarding bloodborne pathogen precautions.
