About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible General Surgeon to join its staff in Alexandria, MN. This position offers a flexible schedule with a practice that includes clinic work, surgery, and endoscopy at the local hospital. Robotics are available, and call is shared among four general surgeons (1:4 weekday and weekend call). There is potential for outreach to other Sanford clinics. The multispecialty group practice includes Family Practice, Endocrinology, OB/GYN, Surgery, Podiatry, Pediatrics, Psychology, Psychiatry, and Physical and Speech Therapy. The service region has a population of 40,000.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible General Surgeon.
  • Successful completion of a hospital-affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • If not board certified at the time of application, must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of residency training unless waived by the governing Board.
  • Demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery.
  • Case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.
  • If just completed residency, provide residency or fellowship log.
  • If not applying directly out of residency, provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where currently have privileges showing clinical activity for the past 12 months, including procedure numbers, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • If a quality profile is not available, documentation of clinical activity for the past 12 months is required.

Responsibilities

  • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care for adolescents and adults.
  • Perform surgical procedures for conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery.
  • Provide emergent/urgent care for pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patients within the core privilege definition.
  • Participate in shared call responsibilities (1:4 weekday and weekend call).
  • Potentially engage in outreach to other Sanford clinics.
