About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking a Physician specializing in Cardiology with a focus on Cathlab, Invasive/Interventional procedures. This role involves joining a comprehensive cardiac program that includes general cardiologists, interventionalists, EP, vascular specialists, and advanced practice providers. The physician will provide interventional cardiology, consultative general cardiology, and potentially vascular/peripheral work. The position includes elective angiography and interventions, as well as 24-hour STEMI services. The facility boasts 3 cath labs, performing approximately 2,400 procedures annually, including 300 coronary interventions. The hospital is an 118-bed facility with a 14-bed ICU and a Level III trauma center, supported by a critical care air service.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Completion of a hospital-affiliated Internal Medicine residency program of at least 3 years’ duration.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Cardiology of at least 3 years’ duration.
  • Completion of an additional 12 months of fellowship training in Interventional Cardiology.
  • All programs must be accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Applicants not board certified at the time of application but who completed residency within the last five years must achieve board certification within five years from the date of residency completion, unless waived.
  • For applicants just completing fellowship: Provide fellowship log with a minimum of 250 therapeutic interventional cardiac procedures documented and a letter of reference from the fellowship director.
  • For applicants not applying directly out of fellowship: Provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where currently have privileges showing clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures, morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • For Interventional catheterization skills (for those not applying directly out of fellowship): Provide documentation of 250 interventional procedures as the primary operator within the past 24 months and a letter of reference regarding competency from the director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at the institution where the applicant most recently practiced.
  • If a quality profile is not available, provide documentation of hospital-based clinical activity for the past 24 months.
  • The first 10 Cardiac Catheterization procedures at Sanford Medical Center will be performed under the supervision of the Medical Director of the Cath Lab or Physician Designee.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in optional vascular/peripheral work.
  • Training at residency/fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than ACGME, AOA, or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada may be considered by the Credentials Committee, Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee, and the Board of Directors or Board of Governors.
  • Providers requesting Laser Privileges must meet with the Laser Safety Officer prior to scheduling their first case.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examinations for patients of all ages.
  • Admit, evaluate, treat, and provide consultation to patients with acute and chronic coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes, and valvular heart disease.
  • Provide interventional cardiology services.
  • Provide consultative general cardiology services.
  • Perform elective angiography and interventions.
  • Participate in 24-hour STEMI services.
  • Potentially perform vascular/peripheral work.

Benefits

  • Compensation floor of $850,000 for the first two years of the employment contract.
  • Potential to exceed compensation floor from personally performed wRVUs.
  • $200,000 retention incentive to be paid if you remain a 1.0 FTE for 4 years (subject to a contractual agreement).
