About The Position

St. Michael Medical Center is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to provide Cardiothoracic Surgery coverage. This is a locum tenens assignment for 6-9 months, with a potential for extension. The role involves a mix of office/clinic duties (5%) and hospital-based work (95%), including assisting in the OR, rounding, and potentially providing clinic support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cardiothoracic surgery, including experience in the OR and managing patients in acute care and ICU settings. This position requires a provider who can practice at full capacity due to the cost of the resource.

Requirements

  • Certified PA – Required
  • WA license – Highly preferred (will consider a provider that will obtain license during the credentialing process)
  • Clean Malpractice/Background - Highly preferred
  • Local, No flights - Highly preferred
  • A Self-Query NPDB report is mandatory at the time of presentation. The Self-Query NPDB report must be dated within 30 days of the presentation date. - REQUIRED
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery experience - both in the OR and also management of the patients in the acute care and ICU setting
  • Must be able to assist in the OR and if necessary round or provide clinic support.
  • Must be practicing at full capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide APP Cardiothoracic coverage.
  • Assist in General CV/thoracic surgery – open.
  • Perform Coronary artery bypass surgery – on pump.
  • Perform Valvular – repair.
  • Perform Valvular – replacement.
  • Assist in Aneurysm repair – cardiac.
  • Assist in Aneurysm repair – aorto-thoracic.
  • Assist in Lung resection (including VATS).
  • Assist in Chest wall or pleural procedures.
  • Assist with Left ventricular assist devices.
  • Manage Ventilation.
  • Evaluate & manage acute volume/BP issues.
  • Insert central lines.
  • Round on patients.
  • Provide clinic support.
  • Participate in weekday and weekend call.
  • Participate in night call.
  • Manage 5-10 hospital patients per day.
  • Admit 0-3 patients per day.
  • Manage 2-7 ICU patients.
  • Assist in 1-2 surgeries per day.
