About The Position

The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for providing competent treatment to in-patients and/or out-patients in compliance with Manatee Health policies, standards and philosophy, The Joint Commission standards, and the APTA Code of Ethics under the direction of a Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapy Assistant will provide intervention to individuals who experience a loss of and/or deficiency in functional independence related to chronic, traumatic or developmental illness, impairment and/or disability. Interventions are developed with the patient and their family and/or caregivers as partners in the rehabilitation process. Demonstrates Service Excellence at all times. Other duties as assigned. The Per Diem Acute Care Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides physical therapy treatments to adult and geriatric patients in an acute care hospital setting under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This role supports patient mobility, functional independence, and safe discharge planning while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Requirements

  • State of Florida Physical Therapy Assistant License or license-eligible
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Associate’s degree

Nice To Haves

  • Previous acute care or hospital-based therapy experience
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Minimum of one (1) year outpatient experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical therapy interventions as outlined in the established plan of care
  • Assist patients with functional mobility, gait training, transfers, balance activities, and therapeutic exercises
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and communicate progress or changes to the supervising Physical Therapist
  • Accurately document treatments, patient responses, and outcomes in the electronic medical record
  • Educate patients and caregivers on safe mobility techniques, exercises, and equipment use
  • Participate in discharge planning, including recommendations for post-acute therapy needs
  • Adhere to hospital policies, infection control guidelines, and safety standards
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing, case management, physicians, and other disciplines
