About The Position

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works at SSH-Springfield, a critical illness recovery hospital providing inpatient post-ICU services to chronic, critically ill patients who need extended healing and recovery. The PTA assists with compassionate patient care and delivery of physical therapy services under the physical therapist’s direction. The position is PRN/per diem and pays $33 per hour. Part-time and per-diem employees may qualify for a 401(k) after reaching 1,000 hours within their first anniversary or a subsequent calendar year. The employer offers an extensive orientation program and notes that demonstrated skills and dedication could lead to potential full-time opportunities.

Requirements

• Valid state PTA license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the start date.

Responsibilities

• Assist with delivery of physical therapy services, including patient transportation, therapeutic exercises, and functional activities.
• Implement treatment goals, plans, and programs established by the physical therapist.
• Assist the physical therapist with therapeutic interventions designed to meet patients’ long-term goals, including strengthening, coordination and balance exercises; posture, endurance/cardiac, functional skills and community re-entry training; joint mobility and muscle lengthening; and pain relief.
• Train patients in locomotion using orthotics, prosthetics, or assistive devices.
