About The Position
The Physical Therapy Assistant I provides treatment prescribed by a physician under the direction of the Department Director and supervising Physical Therapist, following the Physical Therapy Practice Act and hospital and departmental policies. The role implements plans of care to restore and enhance patient performance and completes documentation and quality-improvement activities as outlined by departmental procedures. New graduates are welcome. The position is based at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Campus in Lafayette, Indiana, and travel is never or rarely required.
Requirements
- Associate degree from an accredited physical therapy assistant program.
- One year of physical therapy experience.
- Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) license from the state licensing board.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical therapy treatments and related follow-up services, including discharge planning.
- Train and educate patients, family members, and others to support understanding of treatment plans and goals.
- Provide physical therapy, including selecting and using assistive equipment.
- Report patient progress and collaborate with the evaluating therapist to implement the plan of care.
- Document and submit patient reports and charges within established timeframes.
- Coordinate care with patients, healthcare personnel, and outside agencies.
- Supervise rehabilitation technicians.
- Perform documentation and quality-improvement activities in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
