About The Position

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Physical Environment Studies Lead for the Alto High-Speed Rail project. This role involves overseeing the coordination, technical direction, and integration of physical environment studies for environmental and social impact assessments. The lead will be the main point of contact for all physical environment aspects and ensure consistency across disciplines.

Requirements

  • University degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline relevant to the physical environment.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive, hands-on experience in environmental consulting.
  • Excellent understanding of physical environment components and their interactions with transportation infrastructure.
  • Strong writing, analytical, and synthesis skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable municipal, provincial, and federal environmental standards, regulations, and guidelines related to environmental permitting at various project development stages, as well as environmental and social impact assessments in Quebec, Ontario, and at the federal level, as applicable.
  • Excellent multidisciplinary coordination and management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, autonomy, and professional judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to make decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for the project’s physical environment studies, defining study requirements and coordinating interdisciplinary interfaces.
  • Plan and coordinate studies, field campaigns, analyses, and technical reporting, ensuring timely integration into design, impact assessments, and permitting.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to integrate physical constraints, assess key issues and impacts, and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Review technical contributions, ensure the quality, consistency, and compliance of deliverables, and coordinate with other disciplines to provide an integrated view of site constraints.
  • Support regulatory responses, oversee specialized consultants, monitor budgets, and contribute to risk management and resource optimization.
