About The Position
The Phlebotomy Tech I works in the Lab at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. This full-time role has variable shifts and requires working both days and nights, with 8-hour shifts. The technician prepares patients for blood collection, collects and processes specimens, maintains equipment, and follows quality-control and safety protocols. The role may also involve more complex or specialized procedures with minimal supervision.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- BLS certification required within 45 days of hire and must be maintained as current.
Nice To Haves
- Minimum of two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process.
- Collect blood using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques, and ensure specimens are correctly identified and labeled.
- Organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory; ensure they are properly processed and stored.
- Follow quality-control and safety protocols to maintain specimen integrity and support accurate test results.
- Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in working order and properly sanitized.
- Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision.
