About The Position

The Phlebotomy Technician I works in the laboratory at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. This full-time position has variable 8-hour shifts and requires work on days and nights. The technician prepares patients for blood draws, explains procedures, and supports their comfort and safety while collecting, processing, and transporting specimens. The role also involves maintaining equipment and supplies, following quality control and safety protocols, and performing specialized procedures as needed, sometimes with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of two years of clinical laboratory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process.
• Collect blood using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques; correctly identify and label specimens.
• Organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, and ensure specimens are properly processed and stored.
• Follow quality control and safety protocols to maintain specimen integrity and support accurate test results.
• Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring they are in working order and properly sanitized.
• Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision.
