The Phlebotomist I provides specimen collection, patient registration, and specimen processing in a single assigned work area. Services may be provided in the main hospital, outpatient laboratory draw stations, mental health and skilled nursing facilities, off-site locations, and clinics. The position includes a high volume of work, with approximately 50% of duties involving computer use and productivity targets. Work is split approximately evenly between specimen collection and data entry, registration, and other computer-related tasks. The role also provides clerical support to the Pathology Department and performs other duties as assigned. Depending on assignment, the phlebotomist may serve hospital inpatients and process and register samples received from physician offices; work at outpatient draw stations around Grand Rapids and float to health parks as needed; or travel daily between nursing homes, corporate entities, and residential facilities. Reliable transportation is required for travel between locations as needed. The first month or so includes full-time training on the shift for which the employee is hired. The role requires work every third weekend and 2–3 holidays per year. The employer describes its mission as serving communities as a compassionate and transforming healing presence, and emphasizes person-centered care, inclusion, and equal opportunity.
