The role also handles third-party billing and reimbursement, including insurance claim adjudication and prior authorization, and maintains pharmaceutical inventory in accordance with state and federal requirements, procurement policies, group purchasing organizations, and the HRSA 340B program. The position provides daily oversight of pharmacy activities and supports the distribution of bulk clinic pharmaceuticals, biologics, vaccines, and medical supplies to local health departments and external entities. It maintains pharmacy security and dispensing compliance, contributes to pharmacy and program management, and provides consultative support to patients, clinicians, health departments, constituents, and legislators. The pharmacist participates in policy and practice review, collaborative care, quality improvement, quality assurance, problem solving, data analysis, reporting, and project work. The position requires a Virginia pharmacist license, willingness to travel minimally, extended standing, and lifting up to 35 pounds. This is a wage position. Wage employees serve at the appointing authority’s will and pleasure, and continued employment depends on funding and business need. They are paid only for hours worked and are not eligible for benefits provided to salaried employees. State rules limit average work to no more than 29 hours per week over a year and cap work at 1,500 hours during the May 1–April 30 Standard Measurement Period.
