About The Position

The Pet Stylist provides high-quality grooming services to clients and supports the overall success of the animal hospital. The role involves bathing, brushing, clipping, and performing other grooming services for domestic pets, typically dogs and cats. The stylist is responsible for carrying out the full range of grooming services each day, understanding and meeting clients’ needs, providing excellent customer service, and caring for pets with respect, kindness, and sensitivity. The role also includes learning and following operating procedures, embracing the organization’s pricing philosophy, and cleaning and disinfecting the salon, equipment, and grooming tools daily. There are no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

• Proven ability to groom dogs and cats safely and efficiently.
• Ability to understand dog and cat behavior, body language, and temperament.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
• General knowledge of sanitation for grooming tools and supplies.
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform the physical activities required, including walking, reaching, hunching over pets, kneeling, crouching, squatting, lifting, crawling, and pushing or pulling equipment.
• Ability to frequently lift or move up to 40 pounds and request assistance when lifting pets over 40 pounds.
• Ability to hear pets and see well enough to perform grooming.

Responsibilities

• Perform the full range of daily grooming services for dogs and cats, including bathing, brushing, and clipping.
• Understand clients’ grooming needs and deliver services that meet those needs.
• Communicate effectively and in a friendly manner with clients and provide excellent customer service.
• Perform standard grooming techniques and learn new grooming skills.
• Follow the organization’s pricing philosophy and role-specific operating procedures.
• Care for pets with respect, kindness, and sensitivity.
• Clean and disinfect the salon, equipment, and grooming tools daily.
