About The Position

The Pet Stylist provides high-quality grooming services to clients and supports the overall success of the animal hospital. The role involves bathing, brushing, clipping, and providing other grooming services to domestic pets, typically dogs and cats. The stylist performs daily grooming services, understands and responds to client needs, communicates in a friendly and effective manner, and provides excellent client service. The role also involves learning and applying operating procedures, embracing the organization’s pricing philosophy, caring for pets respectfully and sensitively, and cleaning and disinfecting the salon, equipment, and grooming tools daily.

Requirements

• Proven ability to groom dogs and cats safely and efficiently.
• Ability to understand dog and cat behavior, body language, and temperament.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
• General knowledge of sanitation for grooming tools and supplies.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Ability to stand for long periods, sometimes several hours.
• Ability to walk, use hands and fingers, reach, hunch over pets, kneel, crouch, squat, lift, and crawl.
• Ability to push and pull equipment, including moving tables and cleaning the grooming area.
• Ability to frequently lift or move up to 40 pounds and to request assistance for pets weighing more than 40 pounds.
• Ability to hear pets and have sufficient vision to perform grooming.

Responsibilities

• Perform the full range of daily grooming services for dogs and cats.
• Understand clients’ needs and deliver services that meet those needs.
• Communicate effectively and in a friendly manner with clients, and provide excellent client service.
• Perform standard grooming techniques and develop new skills.
• Follow the organization’s pricing philosophy and learn and implement operating procedures for the role.
• Care for pets with respect, kindness, and sensitivity.
• Clean and disinfect the salon, equipment, and grooming tools daily.
• Request assistance when lifting pets weighing more than 40 pounds.
