Personal Care Assistant
About The Position
The Personal Care Assistant provides direct and indirect care to Participants, primarily in their residences, in accordance with services approved and identified in each Participant’s Plan of Care. Care includes activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, mobility assistance, van assistance, and medication reminders. The role also includes instrumental activities of daily living such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, grocery shopping, and companionship. Travel to multiple Participants’ residences during a shift is required. LIFE Pittsburgh is a community-based nonprofit alternative to nursing home care and assisted living. Its coordinated care program supports frail older adults in remaining at home and maintaining independence and a safe, active community life. Health teams assess Participants’ needs, plan and approve services with Participants and their families or caregivers, monitor changes, and provide timely interventions through Day Health Centers and in-home services.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least one year of experience providing direct care to elderly or frail people in a healthcare facility.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
- Access to a vehicle for travel to Participants’ locations.
- Ability to work rotating weekends.
Responsibilities
- Provide and assist Participants with direct and indirect care needs, including activities of daily living.
- Provide care primarily in Participants’ residences, as approved and identified in each Participant’s Plan of Care.
- Assist with bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, mobility, van assistance, and medication reminders.
- Assist with light housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, grocery shopping, and companionship.
- Travel to multiple Participants’ residences throughout a shift.
