About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make decisions needed to operate it efficiently, profitably, and with superior customer service. The PIC generally supervises store employees when in charge, often at night, and also performs Cashier-Checker duties. The role may require working in various store departments.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and coworkers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of all positions within the store.
Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service in accordance with employer procedures and company policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents appropriately.
Supervise store personnel when acting in charge during the absence of the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Supervise the sales floor to monitor customer service and product replenishment.
Replace stock in displays surrounding the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronically scanning cash register, total customer bills, accept payment, and provide correct change.
Bag groceries and lift bags into grocery carts.
Offer carry-out assistance and perform carry-out duties when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
May complete the end-of-day function in the office.
May count out-of-stock product.
May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
