About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary operating decisions. The PIC supervises store employees while in charge, generally at night, and may be required to work in many store departments. The role also performs Cashier-Checker duties.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer-service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer-service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and coworkers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of store positions.
Ability to work independently.

Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service according to employer procedures and company policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents, and supervise store personnel.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Supervise the sales floor to monitor customer service and product replenishment.
Restock displays around the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe store environment.
Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronically scanning cash register to total customers’ purchases.
Receive customer payments and count back correct change.
Bag groceries, place bags in carts, and assist with carryout when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
May complete end-of-day office functions.
May count out-of-stock products.
May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
