About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. In the absence of the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary operational decisions to support profitability, efficiency, and customer service. When in charge, generally at night, the PIC supervises store employees. The role also performs Cashier-Checker duties and may require work in multiple store departments.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and coworkers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of all positions within the store.
Ability to work independently.

Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service according to the employer’s procedures and company policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents, and supervise store personnel.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Supervise the sales floor, monitoring customer service and product replenishment.
Restock displays surrounding the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe store environment.
Assist cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronically scanning cash register to total customer purchases.
Receive customer payments and count back the correct change.
Bag groceries and lift bags into grocery carts; offer carry-out assistance and provide it when a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
May complete end-of-day office functions.
May count out-of-stock products.
May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
