About The Position

The Person In Charge (PIC) is a primary contact for Safeway customers and provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. When the Store Manager and First and Second Assistant Managers are absent, the PIC is in charge of the store and has analogous authority to make necessary decisions to support profitable and efficient operations and superior customer service. When in charge, generally at night, the PIC supervises store employees. The PIC also performs Cashier-Checker duties and may be required to work in multiple store departments.

Requirements

Ability to follow company customer-service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer-service skills or related experience.
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Knowledge of all positions within the store.
Ability to work independently.

Prior experience as a clerk or manager.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service according to employer procedures and company policy.
Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and employee or customer accidents appropriately, and supervise store personnel.
Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
Supervise the sales floor to monitor customer service and product replenishment.
Replace stock in displays around the checkout area.
Help maintain a clean and safe store work environment.
Assist other cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
Operate an electronically scanning cash register to total purchases.
Accept customer payments and count back correct change.
Bag groceries, lift bags into grocery carts, and offer carry-out assistance; perform carry-out duties if a Courtesy Clerk is unavailable.
May complete the office close-of-day function.
May count out-of-stock product.
May count tills when other cashier-checkers leave.
Perform other duties as assigned.
