About The Position

SAFEbuilt is seeking a part-time Permit Technician in Muskegon, Michigan, to provide customer service and administrative support for building department permitting. The role involves handling permits throughout the process, from application acceptance and plan review through inspections and permit closure, and maintaining organized records and materials. The technician will work with plans examiners and inspectors across the company to develop and support consistent processes. The schedule is 10–29 hours per week, Monday through Thursday.

Requirements

At least 2 years of administrative or customer service experience.
Ability to interact positively with staff, the general public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele.
Good time management, organization, telephone, attention-to-detail, and people skills.
Ability to multitask with frequent interruptions.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
Experience with permitting software.

Nice To Haves

Building and/or construction knowledge or background.
Permitting and/or municipal experience.
ICC Permit Technician Certification.

Responsibilities

Interface with customers and address their building department-related needs.
Issue and/or track permits through application acceptance, plan review, inspections, and permit closure.
Establish and maintain organized systems for files, letters, reference manuals, field inspection reports, permit files, blueprints, drawings, and other data or materials.
Work with plans examiners and inspectors throughout the company to develop and ensure consistent processes.
Perform varied duties requiring independent judgment and technical knowledge.
