About The Position

Seeking an experienced Pediatric Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for ongoing coverage at a Level I trauma center. This role involves inpatient and call coverage, managing an average census of 15-20 patients. The position requires a flexible schedule with a minimum of 3-4 shifts per week, including day coverage (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and off-site night call (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM). The patient population is pediatric. The facility utilizes the EPIC EMR system, and credentialing typically takes 45 days, with temporary privileges available.

Requirements

  • Active Texas licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, PALS and ATLS certification
  • Minimum 1-year Pediatric Surgery experience or equivalent
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree focused on an NP specialty (e.g., family practice, adult-gerontology, pediatrics) OR Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in Texas OR Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in Texas
  • National certification as an NP in a relevant specialty area by a recognized certifying body (e.g., American Academy of Nurse Practitioners [AANP]) OR National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Minimum one year of experience in a clinical setting relevant to their specialty

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
