About The Position

As a Pediatric Oncology Nurse in our Infusion Center, you’ll be part of a fast-paced, tight-knit team that serves on the frontlines of patient care. By day, our ACU operates as an outpatient infusion center, providing chemotherapy, blood products, and other services as necessary. After hours, you’ll provide acute care to patients who need immediate attention. Because of the unique nature of our ACU, you’ll be faced with new challenges—and new rewards—every day. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), required.
  • BSN required with completion of 18 months of clinical nursing experience.
  • St. Jude or other RN experience required.
  • Intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
  • Some experience in pediatric or oncology nursing.
  • Working knowledge of research protocols.
  • Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Strong ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.
  • Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
  • Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, preferred as applicable.
  • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide acute care to patients who need immediate attention during after-hours shifts.
  • Administer chemotherapy, blood products, and other necessary services in an outpatient infusion center setting.
  • Assess and interpret age-specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Apply principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Utilize intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
  • Work with research protocols.
  • Educate patients and families.
