About The Position

This position serves as the primary care coordinator for interdisciplinary patient care activities and is responsible for managing patients throughout their continuum of care at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The role involves high-quality patient care through the nursing process, including assessment of patient needs (physical, psychosocial, educational), designing a collaborative plan of care, implementing the plan with appropriate delegation, coordinating team efforts, and evaluating patient progress. The nurse acts as a patient/family advocate, communicating and coordinating care activities with the Health Care Team. The Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit cares for patients undergoing workup for, or who have recently received, transplants or require cellular therapy. This specialized patient population requires meticulous attention to detail, early recognition of rejection or sepsis, and comprehensive patient education. The BMT unit is accredited by the Foundation of the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and contributes data to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research. This is a night shift position.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), required.
  • BSN required with completion of 18 months of clinical nursing experience.
  • St. Jude or other RN experience required.
  • Intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills.
  • Some experience in pediatric or oncology nursing.
  • Working knowledge of research protocols.
  • Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Strong ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.
  • Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
  • Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, preferred as applicable.
  • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.
