About The Position

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking nurses for their Inpatient Units. This role offers the opportunity to provide the highest quality of care, bond with patients, and collaborate with scientists in a bench-to-bedside environment focused on breakthroughs for children with cancer, sickle cell, and other life-threatening diseases. The position is on the Kay 4 unit, which supports patients with hematology disorders or leukemia and lymphoma disease. This is a night shift specific opportunity for an experienced nurse interested in working with these patient populations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Nursing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
  • Current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
  • Basic pediatric assessment skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Pain assessment skills.
  • Strong clinical nursing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong patient education skills.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Proven performance in earlier role.

Nice To Haves

  • For Internal St Jude employees only: Associate degree on career path to BSN; BSN required within 3 years.
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, preferred.
  • Familiarity with research protocols, preferred.
  • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON).
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).

Responsibilities

  • Provide the highest quality of care to pediatric patients with hematology disorders, leukemia, or lymphoma.
  • Work 3 -12 hour night shifts per week, with rotating holidays and weekends.
  • Care for patients enrolled in current protocol enrollments that will revolutionize treatment for hematology and leukemia/lymphoma disease.
  • Bring hearts and minds to the bedside, wiping tears, holding hands, and smiling relentlessly to combat disease.
  • Perform basic pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment.
  • Apply knowledge of principles of growth and development for all ages served.
  • Assess and interpret age-specific data about the patient’s status.
  • Utilize strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills.
