About The Position

The Ward Family Heart Center at Children's Mercy Kansas City is seeking a Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist to join a nationally recognized pediatric cardiovascular program. This program boasts a large regional referral base, advanced catheterization capabilities, and a strong commitment to innovation, education, and multidisciplinary care. The successful candidate will join an existing team of 45 cardiologists, 4 CV surgeons, and over 30 APNs across multiple locations. This role offers ample opportunities for clinical/translational research and teaching medical students, residents, and Pediatric Cardiology fellows. Participation in ACHD EP care is also available. Salary and academic rank are commensurate with experience. The Heart Center serves a population of over 5 million, performing a high volume of cardiac operations, catheterizations, EP procedures, outpatient visits, and echocardiograms annually. The program utilizes two state-of-the-art hybrid catheterization labs equipped with the latest 3D imaging and EP technology. Telehealth and video-conferencing capabilities are routinely used for outreach clinics and conferences. The Ward Family Heart Center program consistently ranks among the top nationally by USNWR. The interventional cardiology team supports fellowship education, research, quality improvement initiatives, and outreach services. Super-specialty resources include Electrophysiology, Cardiac Transplantation/Heart Failure, Interventional Cardiology, and Advanced Cardiac Imaging. Specialized, team-based care is provided in Fetal Cardiology, Interstage Monitoring, Preventive Cardiology, Cardiac Genetics, Fontan Clinic, Pulmonary Hypertension, Pulmonary Vein Stenosis, and Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Services. Requirements

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Cardiology.
  • Completion of a 4th year fellowship in interventional cardiology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Commitment to collaborative, family-centered care.
  • Willingness to be vaccinated for seasonal influenza.
  • Willingness to be vaccinated if found non-immune to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chicken pox (varicella) and/or without evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with fellow employees, patients, parents and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide spectrum of congenital and structural heart interventions, including ASD and PDA closure, transcatheter valve therapies, angioplasty, stent implantation, and coarctation interventions.
  • Perform diagnostic catheterization and advanced hemodynamic assessments in patients with congenital and acquired heart disease.
  • Participate in cardiac catheterization laboratory call coverage.
  • Provide outpatient consultation and longitudinal follow-up for patients with congenital heart disease.
  • Participate in inpatient cardiology service coverage and multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Collaborate closely with cardiac surgery, cardiac intensive care, electrophysiology, transplant, and advanced imaging teams.
  • Participate in teaching and mentorship of medical students, residents, and pediatric cardiology fellows.
  • Opportunities exist for clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and program development.
