About The Position

This is an internal posting for current Edmonton Inter-Facility Transfer Service (IFT) employees for Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) opportunities. If multiple IFT employees apply, the position will be awarded based on seniority within Edmonton IFT. All hiring requirements and pre-requisites still apply. This posting is open for 5 days and closes on August 17th. If no applicants are received, it will be opened to all Associated Ambulance employees and external general applicants. The PCP role involves providing Basic Life Support (BLS) and Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) procedures for non-emergent patient transportation between medical facilities. This includes assisting patients with mobility challenges (walkers, wheelchairs, stretcher-bound). Staff are responsible for completing patient care reports, maintaining the cleanliness of vehicles and equipment, and managing supply stock. PCPs primarily transport admitted patients within hospitals to other healthcare facilities for testing or treatments, and may return patients to their origin or admit them elsewhere. The IFT Ambulance employee is a key member of the Associated Ambulance inter-professional healthcare team, collaborating with other medical personnel, physicians, and nurses. The role requires standing, reaching, walking, crouching, and bending, as well as lifting and transporting patients and equipment. Employees may work in awkward positions, and may be exposed to chemicals, bodily fluids, needle sticks, moving traffic, and weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited PCP program and active registration with Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) through Heart and Stroke Foundation will ONLY be accepted.
  • Valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's license with an abstract indicating no serious traffic safety violations (abstract will be requested and must be provided to meet hiring qualifications).
  • Completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test taken no more than six months prior to the start date.
  • Current Certified Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care and transportation for non-emergent patients during routine transport between medical facilities.
  • Assist patients who are mobility challenged and require walkers, wheelchairs or are stretcher bound.
  • Complete and submit required documentation including patient care reports.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of motor vehicles, equipment and ambulance bays.
  • Maintain the stock of supplies and equipment available in the Ambulances and transport units.
  • Transport admitted patients within the hospital setting to another healthcare facility for testing and or treatments.
  • Collaborate with other emergency medical personnel, physicians, nurses and other health professionals.
  • Perform duties that involve standing, reaching, walking, crouching and bending.
  • Lift and transport patients and equipment.
  • Provide assessment and care to ill and injured people, potentially in awkward positions.
