About The Position

The Pay Station Clerk supports a smooth dining and checkout experience in Hy-Vee’s retail and dining environment. The role involves operating the register, assisting customers with orders, and keeping work and service areas clean and well stocked. The clerk provides friendly customer service, handles payments accurately, supports dining-area needs, and works with co-workers to promote customer satisfaction. Training is provided; no education or experience is required.

Requirements

Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages and make change accurately.
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions.
Ability to communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Where applicable, ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation.
Where applicable, ability to work around heat- and burn-related hazards from cooking, baking, or grilling equipment.
Where applicable, ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

Greet customers and provide prompt, friendly service, making each interaction positive.
Operate the cash register accurately, scan products, and process cash, checks, credit cards, in-store charges, coupons, and discounts.
Count back change, issue receipts, and bag or box merchandise.
Keep silverware, condiments, and beverage cups available for customers.
Refill and maintain the coffee service area, including cups, utensils, and condiments.
Bus tables in the Hickory House or Market Grille dining areas and run orders to the dining area from food stations as needed.
Follow sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
Answer the telephone promptly and assist callers in a friendly and helpful manner.
Work with co-workers to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
