About The Position

The Patient Support Technician provides services that support patient care in two primary areas: transporting patients and equipment, and providing supportive one-to-one care for patients who require a sitter. The role serves as a point of contact for patients, families, and visitors during transportation and requires a friendly, caring, professional manner. The technician assesses transportation-related customer needs and ensures those needs are met. The position works with clinical and nursing staff to prepare and assist patients with transportation, handles equipment and supply deliveries and pickups, transports contaminated items for decontamination, and delivers and collects specimens, cultures, and blood samples. It also provides assigned one-to-one observation and patient care under the direction of unit nursing staff and documents care provided. The technician follows safe patient-handling practices, reports damaged equipment and safety concerns, and follows through on customer concerns and needs. The role requires the ability to work the specified rotating schedule and to perform essential duties, including the visual and communication abilities described in the posting. Reasonable accommodations may be made where they do not cause undue hardship to the employer.
