They also assist patients with ambulatory difficulties, maintain the appointment book, and provide front office phone support. The role involves gathering charge information, coding, entering data, completing the billing process, and distributing billing information. They file insurance claims, assist patients with insurance forms, and process unpaid accounts by contacting patients and third-party payers. Additionally, they are responsible for cashiering functions, preparing deposits, and working with patients to secure pre-payments or financial agreements. The position also involves assembling patient charts, updating patient profiles, overseeing the waiting area, and assisting patients with various questions regarding insurance, benefits, and medical services. A key aspect of the role is following up with insurance companies to ensure coverage approval and processing claims. The Patient Services Representative also handles medical records, including filing, purging, and destroying outdated records, as well as making new charts and repairing damaged ones. They are expected to maintain a neat and professional appearance, demonstrate commitment to service, and uphold office guidelines.
