About The Position

The Patient Service Representative supports the Neurosurgery service area at Northwestern Medicine’s McHenry clinic. This full-time role is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The representative supports patients by managing appointment check-in and check-out, registration, payment processing, scheduling, and communication, while consistently demonstrating exemplary customer service. The role follows Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, values, Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, applicable policies, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Zero to two years of experience in a customer service position.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Bilingual.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and guests, confirm patient identity, and provide information related to their visit.
• Complete appointment check-in and check-out functions as directed.
• Confirm and update patient identification, demographic, and insurance information.
• Complete patient registration as needed.
• Obtain patient consents and authorizations.
• Collect co-payments, past-due balances, and point-of-service payments.
• Post payments, process billing information, and close the cash drawer at the end of the day.
• Keep the waiting area clean and comfortable.
• Inform patients of delays or changes in appointment status.
• Schedule appointments as necessary.
• For Patient Service Representatives in Immediate Care Clinics, float to other Immediate Care Clinics or departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
