About The Position

The Patient Representative performs billing, collections, accounts receivable transaction processing, and billing inquiry support for the Hospital and Clinic. Duties include processing referrals, posting charges and insurance payments, and handling refunds and adjustments. The role also provides coverage for hospital patient registration, switchboard functions, and cashier duties.

This is a part-time position working 16 hours per week, typically two days per week, with the option to pick up additional hours. The listed hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sundays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays. Starting pay is $18.67 per hour and increases with experience.

Mitchell County Regional Health Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital in Osage, Iowa, with a Level 4 Trauma Center Emergency Room. The organization describes itself as family-oriented and patient-focused.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with or coursework in medical terminology, or willingness to obtain it within one year in the position.
• One to three years of experience in a health care setting.
• Six months of office experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting such as a medical office.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to operate a ten-key calculator efficiently.
• Ability to interact effectively and courteously with a variety of people and customers.
• Detail orientation, multitasking ability, and ability to organize work amid frequent interruptions.
• Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Post-high-school education is desirable.
• Computer experience and knowledge of medical billing are preferred.
