About The Position

The Patient Registrar is responsible for timely and accurate patient registration, interviewing patients to gather pertinent account information, and verifying insurance coverage. The role may involve registration at workstations or at the bedside using carts or computers on wheels. The registrar provides customer service, completes charts accurately, verifies insurance benefits, obtains pre-certification or authorization, calculates and collects patient liability, and secures required signatures and documentation. The position is PRN, and shifts may vary.

Requirements

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

One year of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Interview patients, relatives, or other responsible individuals to gather identifying, demographic, insurance, and financial information.
Register patients at workstations or bedside, including using carts or computers on wheels.
Provide exemplary customer service and explain policies regarding services, pricing, insurance billing, and payment.
Complete and verify patient charts and process them according to paperwork flow needs and productivity standards.
Verify insurance coverage and benefits, accurately assign Insurance Plans (IPlans), and determine pre-certification or authorization status using online resources or other methods.
Initiate pre-certification, authorization, or admission notification when it has not been obtained, using Passport, online resources, or phone calls.
Enter registration information and authorization or referral numbers into the registration system.
Calculate and collect patient liability amounts.
Obtain all necessary signatures for treatment, release of medical information, assignment of insurance benefits, and payment of services.
Obtain copies of necessary identification and insurance cards.
