Patient Observers, also titled Patient Safety Attendants, work in the Nursing Resource Pool/Float Pool at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. They perform patient-care activities assigned by the patient's RN, taking into account the patient's age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. The role includes working with high-risk patients on suicide precautions and remaining with and directly observing the assigned patient at all times. Meal and break times must be arranged with the patient's nurse so the patient is never left unattended. Available shifts are 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. Full-time and part-time positions are available. Full-time and part-time team members are required to work every other weekend and holidays per year.
