About The Position
Under the direction of an RN, the Patient Observer provides constant observation to patients identified as being at risk to themselves or others. The role includes performing care-related tasks according to each patient's needs, maintaining confidentiality, and following hospital guidelines. This position requires patient care and is temporary, onsite at 101 Merrimac Street, with rotating shifts. Scheduled weekly hours are listed as 0.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Some healthcare experience preferred (0–1 year).
- Ability to remain alert for extended periods.
- Ability to verbally calm patients.
- Ability to perform calmly and quickly in stressful situations.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.

Responsibilities
- Maintain constant observation of the patient.
- Document care provided to the patient under observation.
- Keep the nurse informed of changes in the patient's condition.
- Assist the patient in the event of a fall.
- Receive and provide detailed handoff information to and from staff about the patient and their status.
- Assist with feeding patients as directed by the RN.
