About The Position
Under RN direction, the Patient Observer provides constant observation to patients identified as a risk to themselves or others. The role performs care-related tasks according to each patient’s needs, maintains patient confidentiality, and follows hospital guidelines. This position requires patient care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; a degree is not required, and experience cannot be substituted for a degree.
- Some healthcare experience; 0–1 year preferred.
- Ability to remain alert for extended periods.
- Ability to verbally calm patients.
- Ability to perform calmly and quickly in stressful situations.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly.
Responsibilities
- Maintain constant observation of the patient.
- Document care provided to the patient under observation.
- Keep the nurse informed of changes in the patient’s condition.
- Assist the patient in the event of a fall.
- Receive and provide detailed handoff information to and from staff about the patient and their status.
- Assist with feeding patients as directed by the RN.
