About The Position

Citizens Health is recruiting a Financial Counselor to work full-time in our Financial Services department. Our Mission: Enhancing the lives of those we serve. About Us: Citizens Health is a community based, private, not-for-profit organization. It is comprised of: Citizens Medical Center - a 25 bed critical access hospital, Family Center for Health Care - an outpatient rural health clinic, Prairie Senior - a skilled nursing facility, Citizens Clubhouse - an onsite childcare center that cares for children 6 weeks to school age for our workforce, Citizens Medical Equipment - our durable medical equipment business, Palace Drug Store - our outpatient pharmacy. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in patient financial services, healthcare billing, insurance verification, or a related field required.
  • Knowledge of medical billing, insurance claims processing, and financial assistance programs
  • Experience in a customer service role, with the ability to handle high-volume patient interactions across multiple platforms.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA and other healthcare laws and regulations
  • Self-starter who takes initiative, is open minded and a team player
  • Maintain a positive attitude with good energy

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with financial assistance programs
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Explain medical bills and insurance coverage.
  • Advocate for patients with insurance and billing disputes.
  • Set up and manage payment plans.
  • Manage multiple communication channels simultaneously.
