About The Position

The Patient Companion Virtual Care position is an in-person role in the Sitters Department at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. The role supports safe patient care through continuous virtual observation, use of monitoring technology, and collaboration with hospital unit nursing staff. The schedule is full-time nights: 36 hours per week, with three shifts from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. on any days of the week. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is an 875-bed, full-service hospital serving the Dallas community since 1966. Its services include cancer care, cardiology, neurosciences, women’s services, emergency medicine, and outpatient care. The hospital also has a Level III NICU, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Level I Trauma Center, and a Comprehensive Heart Attack Center, and is a designated Magnet hospital.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of experience in a patient-care setting or role, such as Nurse Aide, Patient Care Technician, Monitor Technician, or another nursing support role.
Basic computer skills and data entry.
Proficient communication.
Attention to detail.
Organization and prioritization skills.
Ability to manage stress appropriately and make decisions under pressure.
Ability to appropriately manage others’ anger, fear, hostility, or violence.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and work independently.
Ability to work in confined or crowded areas.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
Use of hands, color vision, hearing, and speaking.

Responsibilities

Use the technology required for virtual patient observation and interventions to support safe patient care.
Demonstrate competency in setting up and using virtual patient observation monitoring software, computer hardware, and communication devices.
Collaborate with hospital unit nursing staff to position cameras for optimal patient visibility and conduct positive patient identification.
Ensure alarms are activated with appropriate settings and are sufficiently audible.
Continuously visually observe multiple patients on a monitor.
Ensure a co-worker monitors assigned patients during breaks or other temporary situations when continuous observation cannot be maintained, such as during a two-way video call.
Promptly redirect patients to maintain patient safety.
