About The Position

The Patient Care Technician provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans determined or delegated by a licensed nurse or RN. The role also supports the general management and organization of the patient care unit, adapting to patient and unit needs. This position is in the Med/Surg department at Newark Wayne Hospital and is full-time, with a 36-hour workweek on a 6 p.m.–6 a.m. schedule, including every other weekend and holiday.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of Nursing Fundamentals, CNA certification, experience as a medical assistant or technician in a health-related facility, or participation in a Patient Care Technician training program.
• Associate degree.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and indirect support activities that facilitate unit functioning.
• Participate as a member of the care delivery team.
• Provide safe and competent care for patients’ nutritional, skin integrity, elimination, and hygiene needs, including bathing, grooming, and changing bed linens.
• Measure and record patient temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and pain level.
• Communicate with compassion and provide support to patients and their family members.
• Communicate effectively with care delivery team members and model teamwork.
• Assist patients with ambulation, feeding, transferring, lifting, and mobility, including sitting, standing, and walking.
• Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
• Perform clerical duties as needed, including transcription and maintenance of patient charts.
