About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the Telemetry Unit at UAB St. Vincent's East, performing basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. The role includes assisting patients with mobility, personal care, and activities of daily living; reporting and documenting changes in patients’ conditions; maintaining patient rooms and medical equipment; carrying out specified technical care duties under the direction of a staff nurse; and obtaining and recording vital signs and other measurements. The position is full-time days, consisting of three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Benefits for eligible positions include generous paid time off, paid parental leave, an Associate Assistance Program, a Tuition Reimbursement Program, and more.

Requirements

BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after dismissal.
Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff and document necessary records.
Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, such as oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and inputs and outputs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
