About The Position

The Patient Care Technician works in the Telemetry Unit at UAB St. Vincent's East, performing basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision. The role includes supporting patients with mobility and activities of daily living, observing and reporting changes in patients’ conditions, documenting records, maintaining patient rooms and medical equipment, and carrying out technical care duties as directed by a staff nurse. This is a PRN day position with 12-hour shifts from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Requirements

• BLS Provider certification obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• High school diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after dismissal.
• Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and orderly, and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
