PCT - Patient Care Technician - Telemetry Unit - PRN Days
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician provides basic clinical and non-clinical patient care in the Telemetry Unit under supervision. The role assists patients with mobility, personal care, and activities of daily living; reports changes in patients’ physical, mental, or emotional conditions to nursing staff; and documents required records. The technician also maintains clean, orderly patient rooms and medical equipment, performs designated technical care tasks as directed by a staff nurse, and records vital signs, weight, and intake and output. This is a PRN day position at UAB St. Vincent’s East, with 12-hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Requirements
- High school diploma equivalency or one year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
- Assist patients with ambulation, including moving to a recliner, walking to the bathroom or down the hall, and getting safely to their vehicles after dismissal.
- Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
- Report findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
- Document necessary records.
- Keep patient rooms clean and orderly and maintain medical equipment.
- Perform technical patient care duties as directed by the staff nurse, including oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection, and EKGs.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, and intake and output.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
