Patient Care Tech / PCT Cardiology Med Surg
About The Position
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works under moderate supervision of nursing and medical staff to perform patient care duties in a Cardiology Medical Surgical setting. The role assists patients with daily activities, including bathing, dressing, eating, and other activities of daily living; observes patient progress and reports observations to a Registered Nurse or other medical staff; obtains and records vital signs; and collects specimens for laboratory testing. The PCT also provides basic patient transport and housekeeping, measures and records intake and output and other measurements according to unit routines, assists patients with range of motion, and draws blood.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and before providing direct patient care.
- Competency in at least two general areas of practice, including cross-training and cross-competency to cover more than one hospital service, role, or function.
Nice To Haves
- At least two years of experience in acute or long-term care.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy.
- Completion of an approved CNA, PCT, or paramedic certification, or current enrollment in one.
