About The Position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) on Justin 5, a Surgical PCU & Burn Unit, provides direct patient care and assistance based on the plan of care and patient/family preferences. This role involves collecting and reporting patient data, supporting admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and performing technical procedures safely while documenting care accurately. The PCT collaborates with nurses to adapt care for diverse populations and cultural needs, maintains a clean and safe environment, and proactively meets patient and visitor needs. Teamwork, flexibility, and effective communication across disciplines are essential. The role also includes participation in process improvement, adherence to safety goals, and advocating for patients. This is a full-time night position with 12-hour shifts, requiring rotating weekends and holidays. Team members may be placed on call for regularly scheduled shifts in response to census fluctuations. Justin 5 is a 35-bed unit that provides higher-acuity surgical trauma and burn care, including treatment in a dedicated hydrotherapy procedure room for the burn population. Staff are expected to work across both care areas.

Requirements

H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
CLIAFE Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency
PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program.
EMT - Emergency Medical Technician
Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B)
Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program
1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification.
BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days
Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.
